News from HMRC if you pay tax via self-assessment mode

Hello self-assessment tax payers

HMRC have announced that they will no longer accept Personal Credit Cards from 13 January 2018 for payment of Self Assessment Tax. If this affects you please make alternative arrangements for paying your bill i.e. Direct Debit, Faster Payment, BACs, CHAPS, Debit Card (yes debit card but NOT personal credit card).  Apparently corporate, business and commercial credit cards are not affected by this change - just PERSONAL.

We have no idea why HMRC are reducing the ways self assessment taxpayers can pay them especially when credit cards are the preferred "online" payment method for all other services and purchases.  It is very hard for a business to flourish without being able to say "we accept all major credit cards", hence why most do - including us.
